The second stop on our family vacation was within walking distance from our first stay. The Homestead, a cottage style resort. It's the sister property to the Zermatt, so we knew it was going to be just as good, and it was.
You pull in through the tree lined entrance and check in at the Homestead, where you'll receive your complimentary piece of fudge. (yum) But, that's not where we stayed...
There are nineteen separate buildings on the property, all connected by scenic walkways through lush gardens and lawns. Yes, I was in heaven. The entire property is beautiful and green.
This is the cottage we stayed in... the Mountain View. Our room was on the bottom floor with a cute little porch. Built over 120 years ago, it was fun to try and imagine what went on it that quaint little house back then.
Of course, we had to try out the food too. There are two restaurants at the resort, Simon's Restaurant and Fanny's Grill. We enjoyed lunch at Fanny's Grill one afternoon. We tried the Monte Cristo sandwich and the Zucchini Melt and both were great choices. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the items found on these resort's menus.
One of the most exciting and unique parts of this trip was the Crater, located on the Homestead property. You can climb 55 feet up and look down inside the Crater, take a walk through a short tunnel at ground level to take a peek inside or you could even take a swim.
If swimming in a Crater is not your thing, you can take a dip in the indoor or outdoor pool, play tennis, volleyball, basketball or keep busy in the Activity Center. There are playgrounds for the little guys and a golf course sure to please the big guys. The Homestead would definitely be the perfect place to hold a family reunion.
When the sun starts to set on Friday nights, gather around the campfire with a cookie and some refreshing lemonade and listen to the talented Cowgirl Annie sing some tunes. And Sparky has some great cowboy stories to tell. (You'll have to decide for yourself which ones are true.) While Annie sings, Sparky brands the kids' birth dates onto boards for them to keep. My eight year old thought this was the coolest thing ever.
