Today's Guest: Blue Robin Cottage

Hi I'm Sierra from the Blue Robin Cottage!

At the Blue Robin Cottage, I love to share all the fun craft and home
decor projects I've been working on. Stop on by and see what I'm up to!
:)

I am so honored and thrilled to  share my Ruffled Trick Or Treat Tote Bag tutorial with you lovely Eighteen 25 readers today!

Let's get started!

 You will also need:

*Jean sewing Needle

*Foam brush

Step 1: Cut your fabric into 4, 4 inch strips- depending on how ruffly you want your ruffles
you can cut your strips double or triple the width of your tote for the
length.

Step 2: Sew a zig zag stitch on both sides of the strips- this prevents the fabric
from fraying, you could also use fray check if you wanted to. Ruffle your strips of fabric by
pushing the top part of your fabric strip through your presser foot on your sewing
machine faster than it can sew so it creates nice gathers. Just keep
pushing and sewing until you get to the end. So simple!

Step 3: Lay out your ruffles to decide where you want to place them on your tote.

Step 4:
Pin your first ruffle onto your tote, starting from the bottom.

Step 5:  Sew your ruffle onto your tote-
This is where your jean needle will come in handy because canvas fabric is so thick. I found it easier to sew my ruffles onto my tote by taking off the extra compartment on my sewing machine arm. This way, you can easily slide your tote over the base of your sewing machine.

Step 6: Continue to pin and sew your ruffles onto your tote with all 4 of your ruffles.

Step 7: Make your "Trick or Treat" stencil. I used a Cricut machine and vinyl to make my stencil but you can make one by hand using an exacto knife and freezer paper.

Step 8: Apply the stencil to the top of your tote.

Step 9: Using your fabric paint and foam brush, dab small amounts of paint onto your tote to fill in the stencil.

Step 10: peel the stencil off and let dry completely.

You can embellish your trick or treat tote however you want! I chose to add a black bow onto mine:

You are so ready for some serious trick or treating now! :) I hope you all have a very Happy Halloween!

Thank you Eighteen 25 for having me today!

I hope to see you soon at the Blue Robin Cottage!
